Jedburgh Leisure
Facilities Trust
When our swimming pool was threatened
with closure in 2000, it was a repeat of 5 or so years
previously, when a local committee had to be formed to
raise money to save it. This time, Scottish Borders
Council were adamant that they would close the pool.
Following a public meeting, a new
committee was formed to prepare a proposal to take over
the pool from the Council. Subsequently, Jedburgh
Leisure Facilities Trust ( a limited company, with
charitable status) was formed to run the swimming pool
and other projects of benefit to the town.
After much negotiation, JLFT took over
management of the pool and fitness centre in July 2003,
renaming it back to its old name of Laidlaw Memorial
Pool. The Council still owns the building, and it pays
JLFT a management fee for providing the vital service.
